God of Creation, by Jen Wilkin
Homework "Lite" Studies
God of Creation, by Jen Wilkin
Digging into the first 11 chapters of Genesis, you will discover for yourself the answers to a number of questions that have been asked throughout the ages: Where did everything come from? Why are we here? How did this world become so broken?
This study traces the themes of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration that set the state for the story line of the Bible.
The duration of this study is 10-weeks, and we anticipate next semester transitioning to Jen's follow-on study, God of Covenant, which covers Genesis 12-50.
The Power of Knowing God/Living Victoriously in Difficult Times, by Kay Arthur.
The Power of Knowing God
As Ann Rutherford said at the conclusion of this summer's study on Breaking Free from Fear, "The only way to stop fear in its tracks is to trust in God, and the only way to trust in God is to truly know God." This study will help us get to know God in a deeper way by looking at his attributes of self-existence, sovereignty, holiness, love, omniscience, omnipresence, righteousness, justice, and more. This book is available through Precept Ministry's Website , Christianbook.com, or Amazon.
Because these 40-minute studies are 6-week studies, we would do two, back-to-back (for a total study duration of 12-weeks), with the second study being,
Living Victoriously in Difficult Times
Even in the midst of persecution, pain, and suffering, we know God has purposes--but what are they? And how, as Christians, are we to walk in a manner that glorifies God through our painful situations? This study will help answer those questions as well as uncover the source of joy in the midst of trials.
Homework Substantial or Challenging:
Absolutely Free in Christ, by Cas Monaco
This study on Galatians is designed (as all Cas Monaco's studies are designed!) to challenge believers to systematically and prayerfully examine the Bible for themselves, and to equip them for a lifetime of Christ centered learning. This study takes a closer look at true freedom in Christ. This is a 12-week study. This book is available on Amazon.
Marriage Without Regrets, by Kay Arthur
This study is an in-depth look at many of the forces that affect marriage. Some concepts covered are the roles of husband and wife, effective communication, intimacy, and finances. This study is 16 weeks and will continue into the spring semester. There are also two formats available, depending on the depth of study you prefer:
Precept-Upon-Precept format
This format is extremely in-depth and homework heavy. The workbook is available from the Precept Ministry Website as an ESV workbook or NASB workbook. (The Precepts has additional reading as a part of this course, but for our study, the extra materials are completely optional and will not be included in the class discussion or commentary.)
In-and-Out format
This format covers the exact same material but requires less time to complete the homework. The workbook is available from the Precept Ministry Website as an ESV workbook or an NASB workbook.
